Question 7

What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The process from our first prelim task to our final film opening has been a very long journey, I have learnt so many new things along the way.  I have learnt so many effects on premiere such as the basics of cutting a shot and moving it around to adding shutter effects and reversing shots. Also I used the black and white effect in both videos to show flashbacks, this signified which shot was which.

Also I have learnt about different shots and I have used this knowledge and demonstrated it in my videos, in my prelim I used a match on action shot which is shown on the link below, I also used a 180 degree rule shot to show a conversation, in my final film opening I used  tracking shots and long shots. But the difference between the two videos is that we used a lot more complex transitions and effects in our final film opening which made it flow better. In our prelim we used simple effects to edit our shots together.

These gifs show the difference between our knowledge of transitions and how we have learnt how to incorporate them into our final film opening.

In our prelim, we only spent 2 weeks planning filming and editing whereas on our final film, we spent a lot more time planning and researching, we researched similar films, locations, music, titles, genres, camera angles, shots and more. A lot more time and effort went into our planning in comparison to our prelim, also we spent more time filming as we had to go to southend and chelmsford to film which took 2 days whereas for our prelim we spent about an hour filming on school grounds. We spent more time editing as we had to add titles, different musics, effects and transitions. We edited it so many times before we got out final draft.

I feel that I have come a long way since the prelim and I feel that I learnt a lot more and built up my knowledge of media. Comparing the two videos, I would say that the final film portrays a more professional look and also demonstrates my media knowledge. In terms of filming and camera work, I am more comfortable with using and working a camera now, I hadn't used a camera for filming before so I was quite anxious on how to use it, in our prelim I used a phone to film because we had difficulties with our camera and then it ran out of battery so when it came to my final film, it was the first proper time I had used a camera but i feel that I can record different types of shots and use it to perform more experienced recordings. Also one of the main things I have learnt and improved on is to get all of the planning done before filming, in the prelim we rushed the planning and didn't have a shot list, music choices etc… and we just threw ourselves into the deep end without any guidance, learning from my mistakes I didn't do this when planning my final film, with guidance, it helped us a lot more and we knew what we were doing step by step.

Below are my two videos I have filmed and edited during this term. Fatality and Amnesia.
